On my trip to the ArtScience Museum last month, I met Belinda. We hardly spoke to each other during the trip, but we all had fun touring the exhibitions. Since then, we’ve been friends on Facebook as well. She is a photography aficionado! Sometime last week, Belinda asked if I would be keen on attending the Orchard Fashion Runway and Asian Model Search 2011 (she was attending the event on invitation by the Singapore Tourism Board ["STB"]) and of course I said yes! :)
As part of the Fashion Season @ Orchard (“FSO”) that runs from 25 March 2011 to 8 May 2011, Her World and Nuyou jointly organised the Orchard Fashion Runway which featured about 150 models dressed in the latest Spring/Summer Collection by popular labels including alldressedup, dENiZEN, Dockers, Levi’s, New Look, Paule Ka, Robinsons, T.M.Lewin, Vivienne Tam, strutting down a 160-metre outdoor runway right outside ION Orchard. 15 contestants of the Asian Model Search 2011 also walked the runway – who will bag the FSO Asian Model 2011 award?
We met outside ION Orchard, just in time for the cocktail reception at the Atrium. Here I am with Belinda and Shirley (of STB). We met up with Jin-ha (who was on an assignment for The New Paper) and Mark, who were already armed with their state-of-the-art photography equipment, ready to take on the runway.

At the Atrium, guests registered for their passes and mingled with one another while enjoying cocktails and canapés. That’s Mark showing Belinda something on his iPhone.

The bar – sparkling rose or white, anyone? :)

Belinda introduced me to Grace Lee, the Editor-in-Chief of Nuyou magazine. Grace is super tall (possibly taller than Maggie and Annie Ford Danielson!) – and I think she had to bend her knees for this shot! She’s one of the nicest people I’ve met and, despite her stature, has absolutely zero airs.

Belinda and I posing at THE backdrop before we head out for the show – everyone has to snap a pic here, no? :) My red face = after effects of alcohol. That, my friend, is one of the many downsides of having fair skin tone.

My media pass! Later on, the organisers realised that since they’d reserved seats for us, we didn’t need the media pass after all. Jin-ha and Mark kept theirs cos they were on some serious business and were basically running about the whole place throughout the show.

Here are the contestants of the Asian Model Search 2011, some metres from the runway. You are invited to vote for your favourite contestant (click here for details!) and stand a chance to win S$1,000 worth of prizes! They all look so good, I can’t decide who to vote for!

The models had their hair styled with Redken‘s products, and their lovely faces made up with Shu Uemura‘s Spring/Summer collection. Gotta love the eye makeup!

The show was starting soon, so we hurried to join the rest of the guests who were already seated by the sides of the runway. That’s Jesseca Liu and Sheila Sim across us, amongst the panel of judges. Mindee Ong, Shi Xinhui and David Gan were also present. The panel of judges, comprising of fashion experts, will decide the ultimate winner of the FSO Asian Model 2011 award.

And the show begins! Our host, Nadya Hutagalung, looking as gorgeous as ever! This is my first time covering a live fashion show so please pardon the lousy photos (I need to upgrade my point-and-shoot)!

First up, the contestants of the Asian Model Search 2011 strut their stuff down the runway, dressed in bright and trendy pieces by the Official Fashion Label, Robinsons.

Next, the Robinsons models! The collection features a mix of knitted cardigans (great alternative to the blazer!) with a few pops of bright hues for the boys, and frocks in black, white and neutral colours for the girls.

Wow wow wow… That’s supermodel Philip Huang, the face of Men’s Fashion Week, walking the runway!

Catch the Robinsons collection in the video below!
Vivienne Tam sent her models down the runway decked in wearable, sweet floral pieces in blue and white. I absolutely love the sleeves on these pieces!

Models of French label Paule Ka sashayed down the catwalk in colourful, swishy skirts and straw brimmed hats. Impeccably tailored, chic and glamorous, what’s not to love?

At alldressedup, big hair is alltherage. And so are graphics, silver, crisp white and blue.

IMO, Levi’s totally stole the show! When the cool Levi’s gang hit the runway, the (female) audience cheered in delirium (at the bare-bodied male models!). Led by Paul Foster, the group of models exuded a spontaneous vibe while dazzling us with trend-proof denim. The models sat on the edges of the runway during their stint – a refreshing twist for us!

One of my favourite brands, New Look, sent their chic, bright and sweet floral collection down the runway. Fruity and romantic with a touch of vintage, these charming pieces are great for comfortable, everyday wear.

For your eyes – the New Look collection!
Three words to sum up dENiZEN‘s collection – fun, fresh, preppy! A palette of bright hues and patterns mixed, matched, and mashed together. Throw on bold, chunky accessories (don’t forget the scarves!) and you’re good for the season!

Dockers‘ collection comprises mostly of plaid shirts fastened with bow ties paired with tailored shorts, and bright shirts with patterned ties.

Watch the Dockers models strut their stuff here!
When I first spotted T.M.Lewin‘s model, I thought he gave out a Willy Wonka vibe – top hat, glasses which resemble TV Room goggles, tailored clothes and walking stick, if you KWIM. Quirky and creative, the collection marries playful details with structured silhouettes. One of the most outstanding collections to grace the runway yesterday night.

All in all, the show was fabulous and definitely memorable. Most importantly, I had lots of fun hanging out with Belinda. I’m so glad we attended the show together, Bel! :)
As Katy Perry’s Firework blasted from the speakers, the crowd retreated for the night while the media continued to snap photos of the guests and celebrities who graced the event. As a token of appreciation, each guest brought home a goodie bag filled with these!

That’s not all to FSO! Check out FSO’s website for the calendar of events coming your way, and ‘like’ their Facebook page for the latest news! Also check out Your Singapore here and on Facebook for everything that’s happening on our sunny little island!
Enjoy the rest of the weekend! ;)
