Sponsored Review
Early this month, Kiehl’s selected five of their Facebook fans to review the Dermatologist Solutions Ultra Light Daily UV Defense SPF 50 PA+++ as part of their Facebook Tried and Review Challenge. Yours truly was one of the lucky five! ;D
I popped by their store, collected a bagful of samples and miniatures, and promptly submitted my review. Who knew, I turned out to be their star reviewer! Guess I was really lucky. The prize is a 60ml tube of the Ultra Light Daily UV Defense SPF 50 PA+++ (retailing at SGD95).
When I went to pick up my prize, Charissa (from Kiehl’s Plaza Singapura) helped to take a couple of shots of me using their instant camera. It’s kind of overexposed, but still a great keepsake! I love it. My friend Graclyn recently purchased a cute instant camera as well; I think it’s pretty cool! Btw, does anyone know of a good way to preserve a Polaroid? I know part of the beauty is watching it age but I’d really like to prevent the fading, if possible at all. :) (Psst! Read on for photos of me and Maggie Moo!)
Ta-daa! The prize.
This is what it looks like, fresh out of the tube.
And here’s the review I sent to Kiehl’s early this month:
“Alright, I’ll admit it – I’ve neglected my skin long enough for freckles to develop on my cheeks. Nope, I don’t think they are cute. And I’m trying my best to prevent more from showing up (and for the current ones to remain the size they are)!
Whether you like it or not, the sun’s rays cause damage to your skin every day. Without the right protection, your skin will start to show signs of sun damage in the form of spots and whatnots. However, despite the fact that I need to put on sun protection daily, I dislike slathering on thick sunscreens which leave my face looking like a ghastly white greasepan. Halloween’s not here yet!
Thankfully, the good people at Kiehl’s have formulated the Ultra Light Daily UV Defense SPF 50 PA+++ - a sunscreen with (as the name suggests) SPF 50 PA+++.
Whilst other sun protection products offer protection from only certain UV rays, the Ultra Light Daily UV Defense protects the skin from both UVA and UVB rays. With Kiehl’s’ innovative ingredients, Mexoryl SX and Mexoryl XL, harmful UVA and UVB rays are filtered out. For those of you who are not familiar with UVA and UVB rays, UVA rays penetrate the skin deeply and are the main culprit behind wrinkles and signs of skin aging, while UVB rays are the cause of sunburn and skin reddening. The index PA+++ indicates the highest standard of protection against UVA rays. Did I mention that the product also contains Vitamin E, which is so good for your skin because of its anti-aging properties?
I’ve read and heard varied advice on SPF rating – some advise that SPF 15 is sufficient, whilst others advise a minimum of SPF 30. At SPF 50 (which is much higher than the recommended protection), it simply means that you won’t have to reapply sunscreen as often when you’re out. I don’t usually reapply sunscreen throughout the day, so an SPF 50 product is perfect for me, especially when I don’t stay outdoors for long periods.
It goes without saying that prevention is better than cure, so I’m happy to give the product a whirl! My first impression? At one glance, the Ultra Light Daily UV Defense appears to be an opaque white cream that looks just like your regular moisturizer or sunscreen. Upon application though, the texture feels so light, it seems to sink right into my skin. I guess there’s a valid reason why the good folks named it “Ultra Light”! In case you were wondering, nope, my face was neither Casper white nor greasy. In fact, I found the product very moisturizing. When I wore makeup over it, there was no caking or pilling – major score in my books. Nothing’s worse than rushing to get ready in the morning, only to find your facial products rolling off your skin!
I also like that the product has been dermatologist-tested. My skin is fussy and sometimes breaks out when I use unsuitable products, but so far, I’ve had no problems with Kiehl’s.
With adequate sun protection, I can now go out in the sun with confidence. Hopefully, with regular use, I won’t be seeing as many new freckles!”
Did you know? This month, Kiehl’s collaborates with local singer-songwriter JJ Lin to raise funds for the children from MINDS (acronym for Movement for the Intellectually Disabled of Singapore), as part of the brand’s long-standing tradition of supporting children’s causes. Do pop by Kiehl’s Singapore’s Facebook page for full details and updates, and pledge your support by clicking “I support” at the online petition - when you help to spread the word, you stand a chance to win a Kiehl’s hamper worth SGD500!
Thank you Kiehl’s for everything, and above all, for being a brand with a heart. :) We definitely need more of you around.
So how has everyone been? I attended a skin care presentation by Benefit Cosmetics on Friday, and I’ll be publishing a post on it soon! Yesterday, I met Miss Maggie Moo at her shop at 313@Somerset – it was the first time I saw her in real life and she is tall… and very cute! Here are a couple of pictures we took.
I ❤ Maggie!
Another shot with one of the team members holding the promotional poster. I was looking in the direction of the camera held by Maggie’s team, and Skye took this shot at the same time. :) I look really tanned in this photo, but it’s really due to the lighting. Maggie hugged me…! :)))))))))
I’m so happy I met her – I popped by 313@Somerset for lunch because I knew she was going to be there (I asked them for the date of her day out, and the time). :P Fans, please visit Maggie Moo at their Facebook page as well. If you’ve had your picture taken with Maggie, please share them with me! :)

I love Kiehl’s,especially lip balm.
Mexoryl SX and Mexoryl XL, I thought I ‘ve seen this name in other sunscreen products. If I wasn’t mistaken…Loreal and Laroche posay.
